This series represents a pivotal evolution in Sola Arani’s practice, marking the transition from the fluid gestures of abstract painting to the structural logic of weaving. Moving beyond the traditional definition of a carpet, these works function as “woven paintings”—tangible archives of somatic memory and emotional data. In this collection, the “loom” is utilized not merely for production, but as a conceptual tool to organize chaos, transforming ephemeral feelings into a permanent, structural legacy.
The Digital Loom
From Somatic Data to Textile Architecture
Merging digital analysis with the ancient technology of the loom, Arani bridges the gap between the visceral act of mark-making and the disciplined architecture of textile design. The erratic, organic lines of the original paintings which document internal psychological states are meticulously transcoded into silk knots. Silk is chosen for its dual nature: delicate yet resilient, mirroring the human nervous system. This innovative process demonstrates how personal and collective narratives can be encoded into material form, setting a new standard for the intersection of technology and craftsmanship.
